Privacy Policy
Gambix ("Gambix," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices, when you use the Gambix mobile app (the "App").
No Account Required
Gambix does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email address, or password. You can start using the App immediately.
Information We Collect
Anonymous User Identifier
When you first open the App, our subscription provider (RevenueCat) assigns your device an anonymous identifier (app_user_id). We use this identifier — not your name or email — to save your progress (streaks, XP, completed lessons, review schedule) and to link your subscription status. If you reinstall the App or switch devices, you can use Restore Purchases to reconnect your subscription; note that lesson progress tied to your previous anonymous ID may not automatically transfer unless restored through the same App Store account.
Purchase Information
When you subscribe to Gambix Premium, your purchase is processed by Apple and RevenueCat. We receive information about your subscription status (active, expired, trial, etc.) but we do not receive or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Apple.
Usage Data
We use PostHog to understand how the App is used (for example, which lessons are started or completed, onboarding steps viewed, and paywall views). This data is tied to your anonymous identifier, not to your real-world identity.
Attribution Data
We use AppsFlyer to understand how users discover Gambix (for example, which marketing campaign or app store search led to an install). This may include device-level identifiers and general information such as device type, operating system version, and approximate region.
Chess Games You Upload (Optional)
If you choose to upload a PGN game file for analysis, we store the game text and the resulting analysis (for example, where you deviated from your studied repertoire) in order to show you that analysis. This feature is optional — the game data is used solely to provide the analysis feature and is not shared with third parties beyond the processing described here.
Diagnostic Data
Like most apps, we may collect basic crash and performance diagnostics to help us fix bugs and improve stability.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Save and sync your lesson progress, streaks, and review schedule
- Verify and manage your subscription entitlement
- Understand and improve how people use the App
- Measure the effectiveness of our marketing
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
- Provide the optional game-analysis feature
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-Party Services
Gambix uses the following third-party services, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:
- RevenueCat — subscription management and entitlement verification
- Apple (In-App Purchase / App Store) — payment processing
- PostHog — product analytics
- AppsFlyer — marketing attribution
Data Retention
We retain progress and usage data for as long as your anonymous identifier is active, or until you request deletion (see below). Uploaded games and analysis are retained until you delete them or request account/data deletion.
Your Choices
- Restore Purchases: available in onboarding and in Profile settings.
- Notifications: you can disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings.
- Data deletion: because Gambix has no login, we cannot look up your data by name or email. To request deletion of data associated with your anonymous identifier, contact us at the email below and, if possible, include the approximate date you started using the App and your subscription receipt, so we can locate the correct records.
Children's Privacy
Gambix is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
