Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Gambix mobile app (the "App" or "Service"), operated by Gambix ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.
The Service
Gambix provides a chess training app consisting of guided lessons, practice routes, spaced-repetition review, and game analysis tools (the "Service"), available on iOS and Android.
Your Access to Gambix
Gambix does not require account creation or login. Each install is identified by an anonymous identifier stored on your device and, where available, in your device's secure keychain. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the Service.
If your device identifier is lost — for example, by reinstalling the App or switching devices — we cannot recover your lesson progress. Restore Purchases can re-link an active subscription, but it does not restore lesson progress tied to a previous anonymous identifier.
Subscriptions & Billing
Certain features require a paid subscription, billed and processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled. You can cancel anytime in your platform account settings — deleting the App does not cancel an active subscription.
Prices, free trials, and refunds are governed by the applicable store's policies. Refund requests must go through Apple or Google; we cannot issue refunds directly.
Free and Paid Features
Some lessons and practice routes are free to use. Full access to routes, review sessions, and other premium features requires an active subscription. We may change what is free versus paid over time, including for existing subscribers, and will provide reasonable notice for any material reduction in the value of paid-tier access.
Your Game Content
If you upload chess games (for example, PGN files) for analysis, you retain ownership of that content.
You grant us a license to store, process, and analyze your uploaded games solely to provide the Service to you — for example, generating analysis or highlighting where you deviated from your studied repertoire. We do not use your uploaded games to train third-party products, and we do not share them with other users.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Misuse or attempt to disrupt the Service, including automated scraping or abuse of our systems
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the App
- Circumvent subscription or paywall mechanisms
Intellectual Property
The Service — including its lesson content, chess curriculum design, software, and branding — is owned by us or our licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial use.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
Chess engine evaluations, ratings, and analysis shown in the App are estimates intended for training purposes. They are not authoritative and are not officially affiliated with FIDE, Chess.com, Lichess, or any other chess organization or platform.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $20 USD. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time; doing so does not entitle you to a refund except as required by the applicable store's policy.
Third-Party Services
The Service integrates the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat — subscription management and entitlement verification
- PostHog — product analytics
- AppsFlyer — marketing attribution
Your use of the Service is also subject to Apple's and Google's own terms governing their respective platforms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in your primary place of business or residence, except where mandatory consumer protections require otherwise. Courts in those jurisdictions have exclusive venue, unless you have a non-waivable right to sue elsewhere.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
